After an early start from Mid Wales in the pouring rain, it was with great relief that the boats were running and that the workshop would still be happening. We arrived on Skomer Island and immediately the rain came down.

However, thankfully it lasted only half an hour and the sun came out for a perfect days photography. Andy gave us a lesson on what settings would be best for photographing the puffins and maximising our chances of getting some good shots!

It was my first visit to Skomer Island and the first time I'd seen puffins. They are quite extrodinary. I just couldn't believe that we could get so close to the birds and their burrows. I was using a large zoom lens for the first time and Andy was really helpful on a one to one basis. He also showed us techniques for photographing birds in flight, and he showed great patience with me, going over it time and again, until I finally understood what I was supposed to be doing!

I am already planning to come back again next year, I don't believe you could ever have too many photos of these most delightful puffins.
