Booked a day with Andy at Dinefwr in October hopefully to coincide with the annual deer rut. Our small group of five started the day with a lesson in macro photography using fungi and sweet chestnuts subjects very informative with Andy explaining DOF and background lighting to show off the subject.

With a lens change we headed towards the deer, stalking individuals across various terrain and capturing good shots while on the move. Lunch came to quickly and was taken in the castle restaurant excellent quality food.

After lunch we headed off to the lower boggy areas of the estate with Andy explaining the history and pointing out interesting areas. At the pond bird hide we were shown how to take reflection images and inverting to give a “how was that done “ feeling to the image.

The group carried on and found deer rutting in several different areas something rarely seen close up and very intense.

The day with was excellent and I returned the following day to see the morning mists {or known as Dragons breath} from the castle battlements as recommended by Andy with good photo results. Will be returning in 2016 and will be on another Andy Davies shoot.
