I had booked onto the Skomer Photography Workshop on 1st June more for an initiation into the Island than improving my photography although I was hoping to pick up a few tips on the way.
There were 10 of us on the day, all at differing levels of photography experience and with different cameras from compacts to SLR's. That didn't seem to matter and I don't think anybody felt out of their depth as in the end we were all helping each other.
The first puffin chicks (or pufflings) had hatched a few days before so the parent birds were starting to bring in sandeels for that iconic shot we all wanted, although my only shot was the first image of the day. I kept picking the wrong puffin to follow there after!

Flight shots were something else all together with the whirring flight of a puffin continually confusing the auto focus of the camera but perserverence paid off and I did manage to 'nail' a few in the end.
Waiting by the jetty for the return boat back to the mainland we tried our hand at photographing the razorbills.
All in all I would recommend this day to anybody, whether wanting to learn more about photography or like me as an introduction to the delights of Skomer. It was spent in good company with an excellent host. I will be back for more next year.
Thanks
