Low mist looked like it was going to put a dampener on the day trip to Skomer, but as it started to lift through the morning we had almost perfect even light for photographing puffins, razorbills and guillemots. It was astonishing to see how close you could get to the puffins especially, with the odd one or two running around your legs to get to their burrow on the other side of the cliff path.

The puffins were a very obliging subject for practising portrait, close up and detail techniques. Wildlife photography for me is about 'tipping the odds in your favour' and I was especially pleased to be able to get some tips from Andy and practice on shooting in-flight birds and getting the most out of relatively modest camera equipment. |
