An amazing day on Skomer - the workshop was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend Andy's expert tuition! He's incredibly knowledgeable, thorough and patient; great for a relative beginner like myself.
The day started with a ‘back-to-basics’ look at our cameras and how they work, as well as an explanation of some of the main settings we would need to use. Then it was time to start taking photos! After a few practice shots we headed off to find the puffins, pausing on the way for Andy to give us some tips on shooting wildflowers – the carpet of bluebells and red campion covering the island was spectacular.

Arriving at The Wick, the high clifftop which is one of the main puffin nesting areas on Skomer, we settled down to some serious seabird photography and the time just flew! Eventually we tore ourselves away and headed back to the landing stage, but not without exploring a little more of the island and trying out a few landscape shots.
Even while waiting for the last boat back to the mainland, we were grabbing our cameras to ‘just get a couple more shots’ of the puffins and razorbills. If you're wondering whether to book one of Andy's workshops - do it, you definitely won't regret it! |
